Playboy TV customers will be afforded the opportunity to access exclusive adult content using cryptocurrencies as the network is launching a new payment option, CoinDesk reported Wednesday.

In Wednesday’s announcement, the adult content network said it will roll out a dedicated cryptocurrency wallet by year’s end, the report said.

Beginning with the initial acceptance of a cryptocurrency dubbed Vice Industry Token, issued through an initial coin offering ending next week, Playboy TV plans other unnamed “leading” tokens to follow, CoinDesk reported.

Vice Industry Token (VIT), a white paper says, is designed partially for adult content specifically and touts a utility that can track real user engagement on adult content channels over a blockchain, the report said.

In its announcement Wednesday, Playboy TV said users can not only view content, but also comment on and vote for original content using VITs on its channel, the report said.

The initiative marks possibly the first instance where a major television company accepts cryptocurrency as a payment tool, CoinDesk reported.

According to Reena Patel, Chief Operations Officer, Licensing and Media for Playboy Enterprises, “As the popularity of alternative payment methods continues to grow around the world, along with the reach Playboy’s digital platforms, we felt it was important to give our 100 million monthly consumers increased payment flexibility,” the report said.

Further down the road, the report said, Playboy also plans to integrate the cryptocurrency wallet with its other business lines, including gaming, augmented reality and virtual reality initiatives.
