‘Anonymous Sources’: Telegram Launches ‘Secret’ Second Presale, $850 Mln To Be Raised

CoinTelegraph reports encrypted messenger service Telegram is reportedly raising an additional $850 million in a “secret second presale” of its TON token before launching the yet-to-be-officially announced world’s biggest ICO.

Verge, citing four anonymous sources, reports the platform is attempting to get accredited investors on board to double the $850 million from its ‘first’ presale.

With both presales, the report said, Telegram stands to raise around $1.6 billion before its TON token sale becomes publicly available.

With the proposed second presale, the ICO easily tops any other token offering in terms of USD value, CoinTelegraph reports, with Block. One’s $700 million result from 2017 coming in a far-off second.

With an increasingly prominent public profile, Telegram’s path to capital has already seen difficulties, the report said.

Fake ‘versions’ of the ICO which appeared on social media following January’s original announcement managed to illicitly accrue funds for TON tokens that did not yet exist, CoinTelegraph reported.

Pavel Durov himself had also publicly come out warning of individual scams linked to the ICO, the report said.
